Artist's Statement for exhibition.
My landscape is noisy, wild and constantly changing, rarely quiet, peaceful and still. It is an unforgiving landscape of rolling hills and rugged mountains, raw and exposed to the elements, shaped by many years of unrelenting harsh weather. The four seasons of each year seem to blend into one ever varying stream, a fusion of extreme weather in flux which changes constantly driven by the prevailing south westerly wind from the Atlantic Ocean. I walk, make sketches and take photographs and while immersed I connect emotionally. This process enables a response through the medium of paint to create an image that captures and interprets the visual references and feelings I experienced. The outcome is a contemporary take on Abstract Impressionism.
